Kumpisalang... Kalye

May every Christian soul experience the blessings of peace and renewal that this year's Lenten Season promises to bring... through repentance and faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Oratio Imperata for Peace

Let's do this...

February 23, 2015

Your Eminences, Your Excellencies, Reverend Administrators:

The situation of the country and the world right now calls on all of us to turn to the Lord in humble supplication and gather our people to pray. As the nation continues to grieve over the tragedy in Mamasapano and the family of nations is threatened by war and terror from extremist groups, our best contribution to the nation and to the world is to encourage people to pray.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14).

I respectfully propose that we the bishops of the Philippines encourage our people to pray the following Oratio Imperata for Peace. Hopefully this prayer can calm the anxieties of our long suffering people and touch the hearts of the enemies of peace.

The authority to declare an Oratio Imperata for the various dioceses is the sole prerogative of the Local Ordinaries. If this proposal will merit your pastoral approval, I humbly request that you issue a circular to the clergy and Catholic faithful in your jurisdiction to make this prayer for peace mandatory.

I submit this proposal to your better judgment and pastoral wisdom.

Sincerely yours,

+SOCRATES B. VILLEGAS
Archbishop of Lingayen Dagupan
CBCP President

Christ in us, the hope of glory.

Acts of Citizenship
serve the cause of Justice in the Nation.

But if you want to be more perfect, our beloved Starshine,
exercise Christian Charity and transform these praiseworthy civic works
into Catholic Action.

Justice alone can not make one richer than one already is -
Justice can most certainly remove those impediments
to the obtaining of wealth and happiness
but Love alone always increases,
always multiplies.

We help the poor
as citizens to each other -
by building up the Inhabited Earth.

Or we as Christians address
the roots of poverty itself in Man
by building up the Kingdom of God:

In each ourselves.

- selah -

All of us, brothers and sisters,
who are fostered in our Churches
and the parish communities She shelters
from within our Nation are capable of doing both.

Therefore,
let us labor to make
His Divine Governance
in each ourselves - sovereign:

Christ in us, the hope of glory.

A Church of Greater Things

A Faith of little things, that's us - a Church of greater things, that's us too.

Love in the truth - Realize in reality the Love that shines from Eternity and see Beauty reflected in the little things and love it back - embracing it all.

Love us All, darling Starshine - for in our smallness, in our needs - we can dream. There is beauty in every human hoping - and in our togetherness - strength in our common believing, it shall be well.

Smile and feel the radiance of a smile. Feel the warmth of human faith in believing, all shall be well... Learn to miss it - long to fill the skies above thy soul with it - serving with all thy heart.

Learn to look for thy happiness in the happiness of others. Dream two dreams, one for thy self and one for such as thy self - make them one: God is, and that is all!

Say to the sinner, O I love you anyways! - For in Christ, I hope all things for you - let us first remain in God and all things we shall through Him overcome - together, always together in Jesus Christ, the Lord.

We shall be great, O little Church, strong in spite of our littleness and despite our individual failings and our spiritual woundedness - forgiven - beyond reach of doubt - a thousand times over - and made whole by our God - out of love of us - yes, for love of All of us - together - so let us be one in this hope: Victory is won at the Cross! - once and forever - so let us be joined in this - just one belief, one victorious heart of prayer!

Say to the evils of this world, I know you now - so therefore, I shall seek to no longer understand you, O sin of the world, but shall have unfailing recourse to the everlasting Truth of my Savior and the reality of my God and Father to my heart - so leave us be, O Adversary of all the living souls - for I serve thee not - and leave my brothers and sisters alone - for I am their keeper.

Receive the Peace of the one Redeemer of Mankind - and know, O Christian, that thy gift belongs to all Nations - cherish all human community and embrace their very human hopes - weep for brokenness and be the salt that preserves - work for healing and be the light that leads - grow in Justice, shine in Love - live in present Memory of God and of each other - pray for thine enemies, give them hope - for they are restless - know their evil and abhor it - but become the freedom they never knew.

Fall and stand right up - and be chastened by thy failings - cling to thy faith, and do this without count - forgive as thou art forgiven - calling out to God for strength and forever trusting in Him - go discern the unfailing grace of the LORD in the darkness of thy soul and you shall know joy - Light in the darkness - and when you know, my darling, your interior skies shall be filled with stars, God with us - Come and see!

Develop a Marian character and you shall multiply this joy - strength unto the Morning.

Salutation #137

so that they may all be one,
as You, Father, are in Me and I in You,
that they also may be in Us,
that the world may believe
that You sent me.

- John 17: 21

(Never Again!)

Jesus Christ
belongs to all peoples,
His Peace unto all nations.

Unto Christians
and non-Christians alike
Jesus Christ is made known
for all human hearts desire Him;
the Savior of all Mankind.

Neither religious prejudice
nor hatred nor War's ambition
will undo the truth of the Gospel;
the Peace of Christ is for all!

Never again War.
Never again division!

- selah -

Strengthening the Nation
means strengthening the peace
and strengthening the peace
means strengthening the Church.

We are not the Church of the past age.
Nor are we the Church of the new age.
We are the Church of every age!

And in this present age,
at the turning of the Celestial Season -
we must as the stars, and with the stars,
shine with the Light of Christ
bearing His Peace unto all nations
and good will unto the ends of the earth.

Lest we forget.
Lest we forget!

New Archbishop of Manila

Mabuhay, Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle - God bless the Philippines!

Saint Andrew's School Hymn

Beloved Saint Andrew's
the knowledge we obtain
from the Lord God Above
through thy guidance and love.

You inspire our will
to reach our golden goal:
Love God and Country
Proudly we proclaim!

Refrain:

Hail Saint Andrew's -
Endless fountain of wisdom!
We do pledge a life of serving love.

The bright and shining Morning
comes in our lives,
we the Andreans give respect
to Thy enlightening command -

We shall cherish You
from here and afar
with You the darkest road
we'll walk unafraid.

Salutation #40

(New Heavens and the New Earth)

To my Holy Mother Church,
especially to the Church in the Philippines -

AT THE DAWNING
of the new heavens and the new earth,
my beloved friend and constant companion -
after our General Judgment at the Last Day
here at the beginning of all things new -
I would that you shall prayerfully
ponder upon these things
that I shall share with each of you:

If the holy angels in heaven are arrayed in their choirs;
our humanity at our restoration shall be arrayed as our one family of nations -
ascended nations, perfected in peace and human community
and infinitely wholesome with all kinds of good things.

For God shall be our Country,
God's perfect Peace shall be our State
and we shall each possess as our eternal belonging,
the wonderful strength of all of our national communities -
all who are good and who have left this world in friendship with God,
reborn and perfected in everlasting friendships with each other in God,
dwelling forever in pious society with all the Holy Angels of God.

True Light shall imbue and permeate our quicksilver reality
with a golden radiance, as the infinite majesty
of the one Presence of the LORD - our one triune Perfection,
shall for all Eternity completely rest
upon the one whole one of our human habitation;
upon all of our worlds, within and without,
shining out unto all of our cities in the visible universe
stretching out from before our feet.

Our own true skies above our souls
shall be conscious and awake to our human longings
and open to the radiant light of our heavens above,
receptive to all our heart's yearnings
as well as responsive to our mind's eagerness to learn -
for not only shall we be ageless as the Angels of the LORD,
we shall also be timeless as they are timeless
and travel the way the timeless and the ageless travel - by speed of spirit -
moving from thought to thought, love to love,
faster than light, sliding from moment to moment,
and we shall nevermore feel pain nor hunger,
neither shall the fear of separation or death anymore haunt our steps
as we labor to discover and understand - together - without effort
the inexhaustible mysteries of time and creation, salvation and redemption -
ever as the vision of our LORD opens up to our souls - face to face -
to bring our lives forevermore into a state of constant felicity.

And,
greatest and most exquisite of all wonders -
our Savior, Jesus Christ - our one True Light,
shall walk among us once again - bodily -
even as the most gentle mind and the most loving heart
of our Lord Christ dwells with us from within
as our own true rest,
ever as timeless as the Peace of the Holy Spirit of God
- within our souls -
bringing us into a permanent unity with the Father in Eternity
and into communion with all the blessed Saints of God -
those prophets, kings, queens, bishops
and the all the true heroes of all Mankind -
each and every one of them servants and friends to Him alike
- from all times and from all places -
whose living fruits are made edible for All and fruitful forever
who are, each of them, elect of the LORD from Eternity
and upon whose happy company we shall be included forever
as the one ascended family of the perfected nations of Mankind.

And we shall know all of this
and many more things when we get there, Beloved of God -
but verily, we will not get there - at the one gathering -
as perfected nations lest our own nations survive here
in this midnight place of War and sin;
here in our hearts, here in our poor world.

Furthermore,
my brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ,
at the approach of the closing of 2012, do not be disturbed,
for there shall be many who will say that the hour of the LORD is here.

But until God Himself decides to work out the way
to bring about His promised hour, as it is foretold by our Savior Himself,
let us bear in mind - here and now -

No man, no angel, not even our Lord JESUS CHRIST Himself,
knows the exact hour of the Last Day;
only God the Father knows precisely when the gossamer veil of time
shall be ripped in two
and our fragile, shadowy existence
directly exposed to the unmitigated, immovable, supernatural reality
of the blinding purity of the Divine existence.

So in the unfolding of our reality today,
my beloved friend and constant companion,
here in this present time,
even as War is still among our nations,
let us be sure that sufficient to the evil therewith
is the light of our Day, shining from within,
ever as the numberless stars of our Father Abraham.
Let us be constantly mindful of all of these things
that we may learn to respect and understand
the reason why things are they way they must be:

Why we must make this choice for Peace
here in our hearts, here in our lives,
here in our nations, here in our Midnight world,
under this greater season of Sky
or forever lose something good in our becoming
- as nations dreaming together this time -
that we will never know the completeness of.

Lastly,
I commend to you the request of our Lady
that we pray for each other and all people of good will
- everyday - as much as we can (when not doing so at Holy Mass)
and work in our hearts to preserve our horizontal relationships
as true individuals reborn in the Spirit of Christ,
as family to our families, as friends to our friends,
as citizens of our nation and of all nations,
and as faithful and obedient children of our Holy Mother Church -
even through her Rosary of Hope.
For the salvation of so many rests on so very few.

These are perilous times indeed.
But we should never fall into a state of despair,
my friends - God has overcome the world - for us.

The First Law of Human Possession

Why did God create the universe first before creating Man?

Because Man belongs to the universe and not the universe to Man.

Nature is not a mere possession that extends out from the hand of Man but rather, Man is its necessary keeper so that from the hand of Man through the goodness of God, Nature is made complete - for Man.

This is the first law of human possession - what Man desires to possess Man must first make complete. For the resources of the earth (and the universe entire) may only be truly possessed by Man by its completion in Him.

Man possesses Nature inasmuch as Nature is made complete by Man through God - for Man - and not destroyed by token of Man's irresponsible use of his or her own human powers.

When I think of this in practical terms, I am presently inclined to think about our current policies regarding land use.

20101006

To the Church in the Philippines -

JESUS CHRIST is our Exemplar:
Our Path and our Destiny.
He is the Second Person
of the one Triune Perfection -
The true and everliving God -
Most to be adored
Yet so little known
By needful men.

He is the Eternal Word of God,
Beloved Son of the Father,
Eternally begotten, not made;
True God from True God,
Infinite Truth from Infinite Truth -
One with the Father and the Holy Spirit -
Through Him all things came to be,
The Splendor of all living creation,
The Light of the human race.

And this Light shines in the darkness
and the darkness has not overcome it.

Though immortal and invulnerable
out of love for suffering mankind
He went down from heaven
through the obedience of our Lady
and the love in her Immaculate Heart.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and was born of the Virgin Mary.
He is True God and True Man.
In His Sacred Humanity,
He is True Man,
like us in every manner
save for sin.
In His Eternal Divinity,
He is True God,
unlike us in all truth
save for grace.

He constantly yearned over us
living in solidarity with sinners.
He lived to serve the least of men
desiring that all men be saved.
He lived and walked among us
examining our hearts and our ways.
He called each of us by our name
and made Himself available to all.
He called us to live a life of repentance,
to worship God in spirit and in truth;
and he gave our hearts, our hope -
and he gave our hopes, His Heart -
with the courage to overcome
the darkness within ourselves.

By our common Christian baptism:
He rekindled in our hearts
The sanctifying fire of Divine Love.
And called us out of this world
to belong forever with Him
as one Covenant family of God.

He illumined the darkness of our minds
by the Light of His own perfect human life.
And taught us His timeless counsels -
to be meek, humble, and contrite,
to be chaste, holy and upright,
to be like God, our Father in heaven,
giving us His new commandment of love
by which heaven and earth shall know
that we are His disciples.

He grieved much for our sakes
and prayed assiduously for us.
He lovingly offered for us
His own Body and Blood
and instituted for us
Our common Eucharistic meal
that would feed our souls,
as our new manna from heaven,
and sustain us for the journey
across the void of exile time
through the bitter portal of our death
into the promised Kingdom of God,
Our one, true Country.

His Peace is a promise
that He will be with us for always -
His Light will see us through this darkness,
His Truth being both our Path and our Destiny,
and His Love will not let us perish in the end.
For His Peace is a promise indeed -
that He will see us through to better days -
into a place without war and tears,
into a better world without sin and suffering,
into a time of everlasting life and of joyous peace
lived in the timeless embrace of the vision of our God.

He sent us His Holy Spirit
to guide and to fortify,
to serve and to strengthen,
to shape and to sanctify,
and protect from the gates of hell
His Militant Church on earth.
And illumine for all of us the way
along the hard and narrow road,
up the difficult, high mountain path
of universal truth and Christian virtue.

He lived for the truth,
He spoke nothing but the truth,
He is nothing but the truth,
and died instead of mouthing the lie
that would deny Him His Divinity.

He became vulnerable
to suffer with our suffering
and embrace our human condition
giving true meaning to our living.
He became mortal
to die with our death
and transform our fallen nature
giving true meaning to our dying.
He was betrayed and abandoned by His friends,
and suffered under Pontius Pilate.
He was rejected, slapped, spat at, mocked and scourged,
punched, tortured, crowned with thorns and beaten with reeds.
He was made an object of contempt
and though innocent
was treated more guilty than a murderer.
He was unjustly condemned to die
a horrible and ignominious,
slow and lingering death by crucifixion.
He was made to carry His heavy, wooden Cross
and amidst a jeering, shouting crowd
was dragged violently through the streets of Jerusalem.
He was stripped naked and was nailed to the wood of His Cross.
He was raised up and made to hang in unthinkable agony,
upon that lonely mount of Calvary;
an object of scorn and ridicule to His own creatures,
suspended between heaven and earth
like a bridge between the world of God and the world of men.
His Sacred Humanity, bloodied and bruised beyond recognition,
He did reveal to us the depth of his hunger for us.
He did thirst for our love.
He wept out of sheer loneliness
and looked down in sorrow
upon the grieving faces of His Mother, Mary,
and his beloved disciple, Saint John.
Out of love for His Mother
and out of mercy for us,
He entrusted us to Mary
and Mary to us through Saint John
at the foot of His Cross.

His most loving and Sacred Heart,
a most loving Heart that has loved us so much
yet in return is loved so little,
was emptied out for us.
He bore for all mankind the terrible wrath
gathered up for all our sins past, present and future.
He bled His Sacred Blood in profuse torrents
to wash away all our iniquities
until finally
He cried out in abject grief
and utter desolation
to His Father in Heaven,
commended to God, His Spirit
and died of a broken Heart.

His broken Heart was then pierced
with a lance
and It flowed with the water and the blood
that sealed forever the new and everlasting Covenant
between God and man.
It is said that our Holy Mother Church,
as Christ's new Covenant people,
sprang from His wounded side.

Alleluia, O my soul, Christ our Savior
Has paid the ransom
For the sins of all mankind!

Our Blessed Lord gave to us the gift of Himself
out of His perfect obedience
to the tender mercies
of the Father of all mercy
and His infinite love for us,
miserable and wretched sinners that we are,
until He was so completely
and utterly spent
that even though He was God
and He is God
and God being infinitely rich
and powerful beyond measure,
as Saint Augustine said -
He gave until He had nothing left to give.

Indeed, He loved us all without exception
and cherished us each without measure
right to the bitter end.
He forgave His tormentors
for He loved both His enemies
as well as His friends.

In so doing, our Blessed Lord
and Holy Redeemer
completely transformed
our common heritage
by His life, Passion, death and Resurrection
from one of everlasting death
into one of resurrection unto everlasting life.

Glory to God in the highest!
Peace to all men of goodwill -
Adoration to Jesus Christ -
Our Beloved Lord and Omnipotent God;
Our Blessed Savior and Loyal Friend;
Our Divine Master and Celestial King;
Our Eldest Brother and Faithful Helper;
Our Light and our Truth;
Our Resurrection and Life;
Our one true Shepherd,
Our Pledge of Victory;
Our Prince of Peace;
Our Hope Everlasting;
Our Eternal Daystar;
The True Morning Star;
The First of our First Magnitudes
Our Everything and our All.

He is Jesus Christ, our Exemplar:
Our Path and our Destiny -
True God and True Man,
Son of God and Son of Mary.

And this I most solemnly confess
as most sincerely mine own,
with all the Christian truths
of my Roman Catholic Faith,
in silence and in words,
alone or with others,
in thought and in deed,
in time and in eternity
by the blessed
and thrice-holy Name
of the one, great Triune Perfection:
The Father,
The Son,
and the Holy Spirit -
One God and LORD forever!

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! God bless us all.

God is not a product of religion. Religion is a response to the Divine Reality.

While all men are called to faith, faith is not a choice begun by any man. Faith is a choice begun by God of all men. And as thus is a surrender to the calling by which all men participate in the Divine will.

Unity is an aspect of the liberty of nations.

The separation between Church and State is not a separation between God and human reality.

The fruit of all honorable religion is peace.
